MOOC: Introduction to Maps in R Shiny and Leaflet
In this course we will be creating a fully functional web gis application using the R programming language. This application will be comprised of different types of maps ranging from point maps to heatmaps, to choropleth maps.
We will also be using different datasets ranging from dataframes to spatial dataframes, which we will use to transform and visualize our data on different types of maps, depending on the use case. Once we have completed the course we will be equipped with extremely valuable skills, that we can use to build sophisticated web map applications of any kind and tell spatial data stories that almost anyone can interpret and understand.
Learning objectives during this course:
R is a software package and programming language developed for statistics and data analysis purposes. The program was designed by Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman (hence the name R) at the University of Auckland (New Zealand) and is now maintained by the R core team. R can be seen as an implementation of the programming language S. R also forms the basis of the RStudio program.
R is widely used in data processing and statistical applications. The source code of R is freely accessible under the GPL license and ready-made compilations are available for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and various Linux and Unix operating systems. R is operated via a command line interface and several graphical interfaces are available.
