Geo-ICT Training Center, Nederland, Landmeetkundig WaterpassenIn land surveying, several methods are used to measure height differences. In civil engineering, archeology, soil research, construction and various other fields where accuracies of cm or even mm are required, the level instrument is still used. Sometimes the analog version of the instrument, where the observer himself has to read the staff, but increasingly the digital instrument. In this course, participants will practice with both the analog and digital instrument.

The day starts with the theory behind spirit levels and an explanation of the Dutch reference network of height marks. Other ways of measuring height and how this relates to spirit levels are discussed.

The participants will then perform several leveling in the terrain. The participants learn to set up an instrument and how the staff is read and they will carry out continuous leveling. They learn which errors can occur and how they can be prevented.

The measurements are processed in MOVE3. With the trial version of MOVE3, measurements can be calculated at the touch of a button.
